i paid off iphone 6s on t-mobile last month , requested have iphone unlocked...i'm moving verizon on sunday , t-mobile sent me email following instructions unlock iphone.
"thank taking time contact t-mobile. 24 hours after receiving email, follow below instructions unlocking t-mobile iphone.
if have non-t-mobile sim card, follow these steps:

1. insert non t-mobile sim card
2. complete setup process.
if using t-mobile sim card follow steps below:
1. iphone using itunes.
2. when have backup, erase iphone.
3. when see welcome screen, connect device itunes.
if unlocked, message congratulations, iphone has been unlocked display. additional information unlocking apple iphone devices can located @ https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201328"
don't have new sim card yet since i'm switching on sunday followed bolded steps above , never got "congratulations, iphone has been unlocked" message mentions.
can who's gone through explain in better detail how unlock (or confirm) iphone has been unlocked?

you don't need stick other carriers sim when need to.
congratulations message doesn't pop , it's not sure indicator if it's unlocked or not.
100% way tell stick non t-mobile sim inside.
