AR Startup Blippar Showcases 'Halos' Facial Recognition Feature in its Mobile App

augmented reality startup blippar today announced new social feature image recognition app lets users build ar profile using facial recognition technology.

called "halos", feature offers users ability scan face app , fill various bubbles around head personal details, such latest tweets, favorite songs on spotify, youtube videos, , animated emoji.

once facial profile uploaded, "blips" user - or scans face app - sees information halo of bubbles suspended in mid-air. feature builds on app's public figure facial recognition, introduced last december, lets users scan 370,000 famous faces learn interesting facts them.

blippar app relies on users aiming phone camera @ everyday objects, products or images , "blipping" them unlock helpful information, interact brands, play videos, games, music, , more.

blippar said in blog post mobile app way of showcasing technologies other companies interested in adopting visual search engine apis - or in case, facial recognition tech, company claims has more 99.6 percent accuracy.
apple has snapped smaller companies specializing in facial recognition , augmented reality technology - 2 tentpole features expected in so-called "iphone 8" due launch later year.

in february tech giant bought israeli firm realface, proprietary ip used power facial authentication in upcoming phone, apple's arkit developer platform used showcase handset's next-generation augmented reality capabilities.
