Install Windows on external SSD


hi guys,

i'm awaiting arrival of new 27" imac configured 512ssd option. want install windows on games rather not partition because of smaller size. possible install windows directly onto external ssd (would 250gb ssd)?

search on forums , google leads me believe it's possible, it's not easy. has done , if have advice?
 

it's easy - installing onto ssd in thunderbolt or usb casing easy creating windows 10 usb downloading windows 10 off microsoft website , "sudo cp -r" onto usb formatted fat filesystem , ms-dos partitiontable(forget actual name if it's not this). install onto external ssd.
thunderbolt port allow windows use trim on ssd while using windows 10 on usb connected drive not. i've installed windows 10 on external thunderbolt connected drive on 27" retina late-2015 imac

terminal command made "sudo cp -rv " there's blank space after r(it means travels through each sub-folder on copy displays files copies)

mount windows iso file on desktop , mark in finder see after opening iso , have terminal command entered without pressing return-key; drag files onto terminal-window , press return-key. type administrator password , sit usb key made.

make sure disconnect external drives formatted macos extended journaled. windows 10 installer not great those. try looking "better boot camp"-reddit , follow formatting windows partition section. don't have take notice of stuff creating macos partition.

have have usb drive bootcamp-drivers well. open bootcamp assistant , in menus of app. action menu contains option download drivers manual copy usb drive.

this:

enter cmd - "instructions found in reddit"

type:
diskpart
list disk
select disk (number) - ssd
clean
convert gpt
create partition efi size=200
format fs=fat32
create partition msr size=128
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs label=windows quick

enable entire amount of space on ssd used windows.

also, create small macos partition on internal ssd new imac. can use link gave format internal ssd , follow section on how create 2 partitions on drive; 1 macos , 1 windows. when you've installed windows onto external ssd you'll have option through drives windows can see , format ntfs filesystem , use exclusively windows. appear in disk management program - either raw or unused space.

reason small macos partition firmware updates , like. never know when installation of macos might come in handy. might never. , might notice firmware update imac , requires macos partition opted out of. mistake wouldn't make again if ever made it.

might explain in sentence or 2 rather typed. apologise descriptions. have done many times.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
