Home in laymans terms whats the difference between using homekit and just using philips hue to control

haven't yet bought first philips 'things' keep getting frustrated shops not having want, keep seeing philips hue homekit compatible, ikea stuff hue compatible not yet homekit compatible etcetera.

sorry being thick whats difference?

hard compare 2 put in layman's.

philips hue app controls hue lighting products.

homekit apples framework home automation app access.

philips app give greater control of devices. pretty devices native apps will. homekit gives quick access (siri , control center) devices compatible homekit, including automation of devices natively built os.

speaking hue, app allows me turn lights off when leave house. homekit can have lights turn off , ac/heat set , doors lock, etc etc.

benefit dont need 3 apps polling location , being baked directly os makes little more reliable (although never had problem when using philips app).
