mbp 13 2015 stops updating cpu temperature


update: istat menus support said aware of issue when working on battery power , problem macos. so, @ least it's not laptop's smc.

have program called istat menus showing me temperature of cpu cores on menu bar thing. @ point istat menus stops updating cpu temperature (and other temps if click on it). think can reproduce consistently - stops updating temperatures ~5 seconds after unplug charger. normal?

other info:
- tried both istat menus 6 , 5.32, on sierra 12.06 , latest stable high sierra.
- tg pro , "istats" software has same problem.
- intel power gadget shows right temp.
- if run "heaven" benchmark, shows temp inside of program, , istat menus resume working time, too. fan starts spinning, good.
- diagnostic shows fine. did smc , nvram resets.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
