Hackers Using iCloud's Find My iPhone Feature to Remotely Lock Macs and Demand Ransom Payments

on last day or two, several mac users appear have been locked out of machines after hackers signed icloud accounts , initiated remote lock using find iphone.

access icloud user's username , password, find iphone on icloud.com can used "lock" mac passcode two-factor authentication turned on, , that's what's going on here.

apple allows users access find iphone without requiring two-factor authentication in case person's trusted device has gone missing.

usernames , passwords of icloud accounts affected "hack" found through various site data breaches , have not been acquired through breach of apple's servers.

impacted users used same email addresses, account names, , passwords multiple accounts, allowing people malicious intent figure out icloud details.
