Advice in buying a new/old MacBook


hello everyone! new whole apple laptops, i've got few questions those, understand:
planning on buying second hand macbook pro (mid 2009) (just fun, because never had apple product), being sold without hard drive. questions is: how install new os on empy hard drive? same procedure windows, or more complicated? , lastly, there else need know before buying used mac?

if want "get into" macs, advise buy macbook pro "all there , ready go".

many problems trying mac running (install hard drive, initialize mac os, install os, etc.) pc.
(you need working mac job this.)

buy usable start.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
