What is FUSE for macOS?

hi all,

did smc reset , went system preferences check if power options changed. thankfully, same before reset.

did notice, however, new icon in system preferences; icon fuse. searched net , think have basic understanding of is; asking forum explain more in layman terms, if possible.

main query is, how did appear? not recall downloading it. installed default? did not notice before?

in advance replies.

ps. system: macbook pro (13-inch, late 2011),
2.4 ghz intel core i5,
512 gb ssd
16 gb 1600 mhz ddr3
os x yosemite.

without knowing icon looks like, i'm guess you've got fuse think have, previous experience, fuse filesystem extension allows read (and maybe write) disks formatted in non offical formats using user mode drivers (e.g., read ext2/3/4 partitions)

fuse open source project, there several sources it, https://osxfuse.github.io 1 of them.

extension wouldn't installed without user intervention - had installed apps recently? perhaps file recovery or disk repair software? if so, have dropped fuse extension enable them repair (or search) files on usb disks have other formats.

hope helps you.
