Migrating files to new iMac


i received new 2017 imac 512gb ssd having upgraded 2010 imac 2tb hdd.

sort of want fresh start on new imac , manually reinstall software need , copy photos/music new external drives because have lot of junk on old 2010 imac don't want copy over.

able use migration assistant copy user info , maybe stuff browser settings , specific software without dumping whole bunch of unwanted stuff on new imac?

i'm not opposed copying/resinstalling stuff manually wise way move things on if want keep new system clean?
 

i used struggle same dilemma. on 1 hand, want must stuff in new mac. on other hand, new mac feeling , don't want move junk.
today this:

files - onedrive, in cloud. including photos. download onedrive. sync. done.
music - apple music subscription. sign in. library follows.
software - clean install of software use regularly.

has worked while now. hope helps.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
