A really dead iPhone 3GS featuring a ballooning battery!


hey guys

bit of fun thread round out week. clearing out storage, , in 1 of our iphone 3gs original boxes saw top lifted off. opened box find display clear off phone , smell of battery acid in bigger storage container, has been away light , in cool dry environment.

decided take apart, document it, , share little bit of fun.

tl;dr phone dead.

uh-oh...
ok battery pushed screen has separated. adhesive age combined being stretched , exposed air means whole display unit broken (though maybe still functional?)

you can see flex of logic board.
each time took screw out heard loud 'pop' , battery expand further pushing out more pressure being held lessens.

reminds me of alien movie, alien inside woman's belly expands more , more until bursts out. battery not alien octopus, battery expanding inside iphone's 'belly' reminded me of :confused:

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
