Is the "OS X Base System" ok to restore

i using macbook pro 15inch late 2013, 2.3 ghz intel core i7, 16gb memory.
on running dianostics: e.g. application/disk utilities tell me restore necessary.
used "command + r" , checked disk (macintosh hd) using "first aid". saw there "restore" function when click on gives me restore "os x base system" see disk image small compared true macintosh hd (388 gb in use of 500 sdd). question is: safe use "os x base system" image without loosing apps , data? tried contacting apple support last night chat call not taken.

thanking you
kuni
