iMac Fusion drives: No Apple File System for you. HFS+ only.

apfs not supported on fusion drives upon high sierra's release. cuz, well, it's borked on fusion drives.

https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/apfsfusion

beta versions of macos high sierra made change in disk format of systems converting them use new apple file system. initial release of macos high sierra provide support new apple file system default boot filesystem on mac systems all-flash built-in storage. if installed beta version of macos high sierra, fusion drive in mac may have been converted apple file system. because configuration not supported in initial release of macos high sierra, recommend follow steps below revert previous disk format.

works fine on 2017 macbook. i'll upgrading 2017 imac 1 tb ssd high sierra apfs too.

note though wording leaves open apfs come fusion drives @ later date, there's still hope yet fusion types.

also, don't know if happens though if try install high sierra on imac fusion drive has been separated ssd , hd. want test?

this 1 of many reasons pulled fusion drive in 2017 imac , put in full-on ssd. apfs designed solid state drives, if wasn't borked on fusion drives, wouldn't see of performance benefits of apfs anyway.
fusion drives relics of past , can't come enough.

it's shame apple insists on raping way on market priced ssd options, since people won't have nerve open imacs , upgrades themselves, , stuck compromised fusion drives.

by installing ssd in normal sata slot, original ssd portion of fusion drive automatically separated out , appears separate 28gb volume on desktop. did install high sierra beta 8 on it, , formatted apfs , works great. it's been great way install , test software on 10.13 while big drive (2tb ssd) remains on sierra 10.12.
