From major version to major version directly or with stops

actually enjoyed apple offer (strategy) upgrades of o.s. if from-version , to-version not adjacent versions. direct upgrade supported (even recommended) , possible if installers intermediate versions not available - way seemed me less costly stops on intermediate stations.
addressed here upgrades of major versions, e.g. el capitan sierra.
in case here mavericks sierra.

having upgrade completed, fresh after completion no more sure if optimal journey flow apple stock apps change formats of data handled , stored them on change of o.s. major version increase. longer distance between from-version , to-version on o.s. upgrade more data format changes might had happen on distance. easier make single conversion chain such conversions. risk of errors higher on chaining format conversions.
upgrade 10.9 10.12 experienced several problems regarding apple stock apps - addressed here on macrumors forum.

i wonder if outcome been better if had make journey mavericks sierra stops on every (or some) intermediate station(s). likes share own opinion? input welcome.

p.s. option me missed opportunity download yosemite or/and capitan installers. got informed days not possible break process between installer download completion , o.s. install/upgrade process no plan had compiled how handle backups on upgrade. fault not had invested time matters of installers availability. got informed days direct upgrade distant major version not supported.

i not understand question.

in principle upgrading os 1 version @ time offers no benefits assuming apples software can recognize previous data formats without problems. on other hand there have been problems such migration iphoto/aperture photos didn't go planned.

keep in mind have upgraded without doing clean installs , have noticed no problems. make clean install on secondary mac semi regularly because use software testing.

if have third party software may complicate matters if aren't compatible newer os.
