Video on Apple TV

bought apple tv , thought because of memory inside able put movies , series have on pc on it.
discovered couldn't connect atv pc.

question : how watch video file on atv?

tried vlc have bad wifi takes time send files.

tried put files on iphone there lags airplay.

think? have solution or it's impossible?
