Macbook Pro 2017 15-inch Processor

hello all-

long time listener, first time caller here. going buy new macbook pro need in deciding 1 get.

what have
  • macbook pro (13-inch, mid 2012)
  • 2.9 ghz intel core i7
  • 16 gb ram
  • 2- 1 tb ssd drives owc (i removed superdrive long ago , replaced second ssd, , replaced original hdd ssd total of 2tb)
what use for

in music production, 90% of professional use of computer using finale, sibelius, , logic pro. dabble in graphic design adobe cc (but more of hobby non-profits volunteer with). video work , when it's in syncing music, never video editing.

personal use netflix. i'm not gamer (i have nintendo switch though love!)

when working in home studio use dual monitors (my monitors older upgrading them in near future)

what have decided on far

  • 15-inch mbp (the 2 inch aging eyes definite need)
what need with
  • storage - spoiled 2tb ssd. have of archives in google drive now, don't need space, when i'm in studio having space on computer necessity since audio files big. is worth upgrading 1 tb (my current applications folder under 50 gb , photo , music libraries store on external drive)
  • processor - have admit not knowledgeable in processors. current mbp has 2.9, , know option drastically better quad core. is there value upgrading 2.9 or 3.1 on base model 2.8?
as far price, i'm not saying money isn't option, writing off since of income 1099 base, can depreciate on taxes. however, still have shell out money front. (my wife , aren't big fans of credit cards, pay out of savings, wife wants me not deplete our account!)

thank helping out!

congrats on decision upgrade! purposes, there little purpose upgrade base 2.8ghz cpu in 15" pro. performance of kaby lake quad-core chip run circles around dual-core 2012 machine (even in single-core tasks). doesn't sound make use of graphics capabilities, tempted skip gpu upgrade also. radeon pro 555 in base model capable gpu - coming mediocre integrated graphics 2012. music production - , because have 2tb of onboard storage - upgrade 1tb ssd in new machine. expensive upgrade @ purchase, very fast drive , impossible upgrade internal storage @ later date. ssds in new pros soldered onto logic board; buy @ time of purchase have service life of machine.

now, when spec machines on apple's website, base model upgraded 1tb ssd $2,999. not cheap stretch, potent machine sure. on flip side though... when step high-end stock configuration , bump storage 1tb, @ $3,199. $200 bucks upgraded cpu , more powerful dedicated gpu (radeon pro 555 2gb radeon pro 560 4gb). if plan keep machine next 5 years, $200 $40/ year. again, use, other upgrades on stock not going make of difference, getting decent upgrades $200 on base (assuming both configured 1tb ssd, think appreciate).

luck , let know decide!
