Report Says U.S. Government Filed to Intervene in Apple's Tax Appeal in Europe

the u.s. government has filed application general court of european union intervene in ongoing tax-related case between apple , european commission, according reuters.
the report did not specify when application submitted, it's unclear if occurred under barack obama or donald trump administrations.

last august, following three-year investigation, european commission found apple received illegal state aid ireland. iphone maker allegedly paid between 0.005 percent , 1 percent in taxes in ireland between 2003 , 2014, compared the country's headline 12.5 percent corporate tax rate.

european commission ordered apple pay 13 billion euros ireland in taxes result of decision.

apple has not paid amount , appealed case in december, arguing european commission made "fundamental errors" failing recognize "profit-driving activities," in particular development , commercialization of intellectual property, controlled , managed in united states.

ireland has also appealed case, denying gave favourable tax treatment apple. in statement, irish government said full amount of tax in case paid apple, adding no state aid provided. "ireland not deals taxpayers," country said.

apple's top lawyer bruce sewell earlier said company "convenient target" because "generates lots of headlines," allowing european commissioner margrethe vestager become "dane of year" 2016.

report, citing source knowledge of matter, said general court expected hear case in late 2018.

not sure government can apple. arrangement apple has ireland ludicrous, , little wonder eu taking action.

How much is my cMP worth?
