Finally upgraded my 21.5 (mid 2009) iMac


hi guys, don’t post here.

bought first imac 21.5” in 2009 , sold $150 wireless mouse , keyboard. lol!
it’s in great shape , still working great, it’s getting slow video editing using filmora.

last week, bought 27” imac 5k base model 1tb fusion drive.

upgraded memory 24gig of ram . i’ve heard 24gig of ram ideal amount video editing base imac ram youtube tester. higher doesn’t benefit money.

bought external samsung t5 500 gb ssd $197 ( not afford apple ssd 500gb- 1tb ssd right now.)
formatted t5 new macos high sierra apfs , boot system external t5. i’m using trim app external ssd.

here speed of samsung t5 via usb-c connection imac thunderbolt 3.

use internal 1tb fusion drive storage. btw, have macos high sierra installed in fusion drive , converted remaining space apfs. although, don’t boot imac drive , fusion drive doesnt benefit new apfs.

btw, love magic mouse , keyboard...

recommendation or i’ve missed?
 

i glad found post thinking of doing pretty same thing have done. have mid-2011 imac hdd getting long in tooth. use photo editing (lightroom, photoshop, various plug-ins) , investigating mid 2017 imac. thought having configured internal ssd replacing fusion drive, if external samsung t5 works well, may save me bit of money. did rename external t5 macintosh hd or leave name internal fusion drive? other insights might have appreciated.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
