2017 TB MacBook Pro – Temperatures

hi everyone,

completed "dream setup" consisting in hooking single thunderbolt connect charge/display/ethernet/audio everytime home, on 2017 15" tb mbp 560. i'm using caldigit thunderbolt station 3. i'm experiencing far higher temperatures , fans revving while docked light usage on 2560x1440 monitor compared undocked on internal display, in fact pushing 1920x1200 hidpi (3x pixels + downscaling) moderate load on cpu.

purpose of gathering temperatures, setup 1920x1080 high quality mkv video playing on vlc on desktop. every app closed, istat menus running reading of temperatures. fans locked down slowest speed through istat, can reading of temperatures after 5 minutes of stabilization time.
  • internal monitor, charging through apple stock charger: 57c°
  • internal monitor, charging through thunderbolt station 3: 65c° (+8c°)
  • external monitor, charging through thunderbolt station 3 internal monitor left open : 70c° (+13c°)
  • external monitor, charging through thunderbolt station 3 in clamshell mode: 67c° (+10c°)
so, seems connecting thunderbolt dock makes other chip heat inside macbook, uses same cooling system of cpu/gpu. chip/area disabled when using charge or using usb-c accessories. in other readings, can see "thunderbolt left proximity" spike 40c° 60c° connecting thunderbolt station 3.

interesting note: can see spike in temperature if connect thunderbolt station 3 stock apple usb-c charging cable: sierra detects there thunderbolt 3 peripheral can't use , asks thunderbolt cable instead, area still activates , heats up.

of guys experiencing same issue? in advance.

you're activating thunderbolt 3 (alpine ridge?) chipset. tb3 won't part of actual cpu until coffeelake believe (could wrong).
