Trying to upgrade from El Capitan to Sierra - monitor goes to sleep permanently

when sierra came out, tried upgrade it, monitor showed nothing. when used cmd+r , restarted there, access mac. had technician reinstall el capitan, because no advice read helped.

tried upgrading sierra again (using sierra button sits on launchpad year) , time got worse. can access cmd+r, restart there has no effect.

use philips minotor, power button blinks when asleep. after upgrading sierra, had same effect - monitor seems asleep, while mac running.

used revert el capitan. sierra has brought nothing troubles. el capitan seems bit slower before. hope nothing got damaged during sierra upgrade , back-up restore?

ideas of why have happened? due monitor not being apple hardware? sierra not working mac mini?

are able try monitor?
