External HDD enclosure as additional backup option?


simple question - want confirm.

have 2012 1tb mac mini das 2tb raid 5 connected it.

houses our media plex server, , canonical library our photos , imovie.

add additional layer of backup protection, won't break bank.

backblaze etc. unfortunately not option slow upload speeds.


question:

purchasing wd red 3/4tb hdd , , dropping 1 of usb 3.0 hdd enclosures, work purposes of periodic tm backup?

in, once every few months - plug in, run tm backup, remove , store drive @ different location?

not phased speeds etc, can leave on overnight etc.

guess i'm asking if - given can pick wd red cheaper going standard all-in-one external drives sold seagate/wd - , more capacity, whether there drawback in using red inside cheap enclosure, compared all-in-one?

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
