Network storage advice please! External raid or TimeCapsule

hey!
home network storage in need of update - have qnap nas results in 4 finder sidebar locations same drive - ugly.

have mac mini used media server, connected qnap nas media stored - streaming can slow , drives disconnect. use nas time machine backup. need upgrade , have 2 options, think:

1) connect new external hdd mac mini , use macos server allow time machine this

2) connect new external hdd airport extreme serve network storage , tm backup

there benefits or cons each of these options?
, show 'tidiest' option within finder - (i despise 4 icons 1 storage unit have qnap nas)

thanks!

i have hard time seeing why you'd see 4 network shares representing qnap unless you've misconfigured in way, again i've never used qnap nas boxes.

of 2 alternative solutions present in post, connecing , sharing external drive or drive cabinet mac 1 give throughput, if that's required.
