i have 2013 macbook air used thunderbolt dvi adapter hook-up external monitor. works great. on brand new macbook pro 13-inch added thunderbolt 3 usb-c adapter connect external monitor. dvi adapter connected new thunderbolt usb-c adapter external monitor not recognize laptop.
suggestions on how make external monitor see laptop appreciated.
a couple of things going on here. used official apple minidisplayport dvi right? apple never made thunderbolt dvi cable i'll assume thats case.
mention thunderbolt old macbook air acting displayport on thunderbolt port. usb-c port on new mac can more or less same. thunderbolt doesn't enter equation , thunderbolt 3 (usb-c) thunderbolt 2/1 adapter (with minidisplayport plug) won't work conversion; tb3 adapter not carry displayport signals. wouldn't shocked if apple told work; happened alot of people unfortunately.
need can take displayport on usb-c , convert dvi, there few options on amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/cable-matters-adapter-incompatible-displays/dp/b012b58jrm/
things change if trying power higher end 30" apple display.
can't make recommendations because old dvi monitors boxed up, there plenty reviews.
