Tim Cook Says 'Strong Demand' For 2016 MacBook Pro Helped Set New Mac Sales Record Last Quarter

apple reported second quarter earnings results earlier week, , during subsequent conference call, ceo tim cook said mac revenue hit new march quarter record due "strong demand" latest macbook pro touch bar models, released in october 2016.

apple sold 4.2 million macs in quarter, 4 percent 4 million sold in year-ago quarter, not break out sales on model-by-model basis. mac-related revenue totaled $5.8 billion, 14 percent 5.1 million in year-ago quarter, new all-time record in second quarter.

apple's record march quarter achieved despite lack of hardware updates macbook, macbook air, imac, mac pro, , mac mini in on 1 3 years depending on model. macbook pro mac apple updated in 2016, beyond making 8gb ram standard on 13-inch macbook air.

2016 macbook pro faced fair share of criticism when launched. professional users disappointed removal of 2 or 4 thunderbolt 3 ports, while others faced battery life concerns , graphics issues addressed software updates.

fortunately, updates on horizon. last month, apple made rare move of pre-announcing it's working on new pro-focused imac models launch later year. it's working on new mac pro feature "modular" design, after admitting 2013 model has thermal constraints.

apple analyst ming-chi kuo of kgi securities said new 13-inch , 15-inch macbook pro models faster kaby lake processors enter mass production in june quarter. said new 12-inch macbook models enter production in spring, , high-end models supposedly have 16gb of ram.

kuo mentioned "15-inch macbook" include 32gb of ram , enter mass production in fourth quarter, starts in september. said model "the redesigned product year," , believes adopt desktop-class ram satisfy high-end users.

hardware references possible next-generation macbook pro models discovered in macos 10.12.4 in february. it's less if macbook air continue receive updates, or supplanted 12-inch macbook entirely, while apple said mac mini remains "important product" in lineup.

"we're investing aggressively in [the mac's] future, , excited innovation can bring platform," said cook.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
