iMac Pros With Custom Xeon Chips Possibly Appear on Geekbench Ahead of December Launch

while imac pro doesn't launch 6 weeks or so, possible benchmarks computer may have surfaced on geekbench. results provide @ how powerful apple's $4,999-and-up desktop workstation when released in december.

interestingly, imac pro models benchmarked appear have custom, downclocked xeon chips intel hasn't publicly announced yet. there benchmark result model 3.2ghz 8-core xeon w-2140b processor, while third listing exists model 3.0ghz 10-core xeon w-2150b chip.

of models identified "aapj1371,1," , unlike other xeon chips, processors have "b" suffix. few of benchmark results late august, while rest october.

macrumors spoke geekbench founder john poole, speculated imac pro may require chips lower thermal design power, , lower frequencies, due all-in-one form factor. noted other chips in xeon processor w family have relatively high tdps of 140w.

multi-core geekbench score 8-core model averages out 23,536, highest performance of imac ever. it's 22 percent faster latest 5k imac equipped maxed-out 4.2ghz quad-core core i7 processor, has average multi-core score of 19,336.

higher-end 10-core imac pro has multi-core score of 35,917, 41 percent faster latest mac pro maxed out 2.7ghz 12-core xeon e5 processor. single-core score of 5,345 faster highest-end 5k imac released earlier year.

in all, benchmarks point imac pro being unsurprisingly powerful top bottom. , that's not looking @ 18-core imac pro, hasn't been benchmarked yet , surely blow every other mac out of water--at least until modular mac pro ready.

apple said imac pro feature top-of-the-line radeon pro vega graphics, 4tb of ssd storage, , 128gb of ecc ram. computer share same design standard imac, all-flash architecture, new thermal design, , 4 thunderbolt 3 ports.
