ultimately, want able turn on floodlight on unattached garage. 20 ft house. don't need wifi, if find radio frequency controlled, read 'old style garage opener control', suit purpose.

want do:
able turn on , off house, , stays way until changed.

don't need do:
allow me turn on using phone or ipad anywhere not home. prefer no internet access @ all.

@ first thought make floodlight remote on/off. if does, can't find it. 10 , punt: looking @ outlet control , i'll install dumb floodlight.

trust apple more android or alexa system. not more. assuming google driven system android.

problems homekit: bad reviews 120 vac outlets, stories of drop outs , unreliability, evidently little lowes or home depot support visited both , no 1 knew specific , lowes pushing iris, hard find information system components needed little trying do. example, brands of home controls evidently require bridge, , don't.

live in rural/neighborhood setting. means there lots of raccoons, possums, occasional deer or turkey wander by, motion detect floodlight turning off , on night. means have neighbors houses 50 feet away. don't want light bothering them late @ night or morning.

if felt product more secure wouldn't care if wifi controlled. don't think security high priority component makers, , if apple insist on secure standards may why don't see number of component makers being homekit compatible.

 

hear me out, since didn't why didn't want light connected iphone or ipad. have 4 flood lights connected via lutron caseta system. have them set on timers (sun set turn on, sun rise turn off). flood lights motion controlled, when come on @ ss or sr, on brief period of time, i.e. set @ light remain on if there motion. once timer runs out run of motion or on/off turn waiting state.

not use them homekit, use lutron caseta bridge hub. installed flood lights. installed controllers. connected , setup via phone. never have deal them unless want to. can turn them on manually if need pressing smart button turn off'/turn on within few seconds activate motion sensor when first turn on light on phone or manually pushing button on wall. if don't want come on , go off based on settings of ss , sr.

there nothing can motion sensors unless point motion little ground. depending on model, pick , movement. have our set 3 minutes on. ample time person move 1 light source trigger more 1 based on have lights. have our lights around perimeter of house next of our windows or doors.

motion sensors allow aim lights want. again, various model model.

other flipping old fashion switch off , on, options limited. mention power, has contend with. live in city , have power outages time. long ones. have yet have re-setup system.
