Touch Strip goes black


lately touch strip has randomly started going black, , can't light up. still responds touch have guess on strip touch it, because won't light up! did research, , people have luck holding down fn key relight, doesn't work me. restarting computer seems trick. there setting or something? else experiencing this?
 

that's new 1 me, stays dark function key press, still works. running latest os? unusual software? might need try resetting smc (maybe nvram measure), , if doesn't work, booting in safe mode or clean install.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
