CarPlay and maps - Its just really not that great in most situations.


just wanted run in case missed something. right have centre screen on civic , have phone mounted right beside steering wheel. when use waze puts screen need it. using map on centre console quite far eyes looking if need glance @ information. worse iphone screen shows upcoming instructions on phone screen. while may seem good, because next steering wheel, glance at. problem because top item shows last set of directions. doesn't update. if street 10 km away, 10km away instead of changing closer, making literally useless.

2 things think amazing:

1. carplay has simple features can "lock" carplay app phone screen. mean if locked map screen, no matter clicked on other screen, wouldn't change on phone. convenient having things podcast info on other screen, or listening radio , having radio information on screen.

2. in situations "maps" great have option swap screen parent screen. maps push upcoming directions main console , leave maps on phone showing.

anyways, thoughts. because not integrated above may have stop using care play altogether because if have waze open , click on on console in car, waze close. kinda annoying - other option use maps, maps won't show on phone , instead shows on centre console far eyes. don't think apple has quite figured out carplay thing. not bad easier use phone without integrating on main console screen.
 

carplay useless, , find comment otherwise have weak arguments. biggest gripe is:

1- not being able use 3rd party apps such google maps (apple maps horrible , apple not letting users use other choices not disservice dangerous. i've had cases maps have steered me wrong way , i've been late cancer-related medical visits. spouse has ended in wrong parts of town well)

2- mentioned in #1. apple think's it's parent , won't let "un-mirror" phone. in case have maps (god forbid) on carplay screen, , co-pilot decides say, check messages, removes maps screen, limits can see in messages, starts autoplay messages you.

reason , these reasons set in stone now. how companies bmw charge users $500 have feature beyond me.

MBP extremely slow, HDD cable replaced, what next?

How much is my cMP worth?
