Help with Network hard drive (BT Smart hub)

hello,

have purchase new macbook pro , decided try , take advantage of usb port on bt smart hub , seagate 1tb hard drive had spare.

have connected drive smart hub , can access files on after adding shared network in finder.

however, if try , add files dialogue box opens prompting me input finder password wants make changes error box pops stating -

the operation can’t completed because don’t have necessary permission.

aim here use drive shared storage (photos/music etc) not time machine, have separate drive this.

or have idea how can make work?

in advance

a lot of guessing here, ...

hub linux based , usb drive shared using samba protocol.

there configuration file samba called smb.conf controls access shared resurces. there admin gui gives access these settings on hub.

folders try create on usb drive follow linux file access rules, ownership , access rights of parent folder determine if allowed create subfolder. need owner of parent foolder or folder needs have write access switched on "world".

so, in short problem @ hub, finder sending user name , password hub , if not match username, password , access rights set on hub, no access!
