Tim Cook Confirms Apple's Focus on Autonomous Driving Systems

apple ceo tim cook has spoken bloomberg clarify first time company's intentions in automotive market, following several reports in recent months indicating company has put ambitions build car on back-burner.
cook has not been forthcoming in previous remarks when asked apple's car plans, choosing instead call automotive space "interesting" because of potential new technologies. recent rumors had converged around belief apple has refocused car project, reportedly involved more 1,000 engineers when began in 2014.

ballooning costs , change in management said have pushed apple's car strategy increasingly toward autonomous driving systems, leading dozens of employees involved in project being laid off part of internal "reboot".
cook's comments particularly timely, following indications apple's exclusive focus on self-driving technology has accelerated in recent months.
