bought ipad 2017 apple store. it's replacing thinkpad e series, replaced mid-2012 macbook pro , couldn't used windows. decided sell it, , money object couldn't afford new macbook! around time of wwdc , ios 11 announcement , many of you, in awe of how mature ios experience looking! new files app anticipated feature used icloud drive on mac content - love , preference apple ecosystem 1 of reasons disliked windows btw, okay obviouly couldn't satisfy apple fan's lust apple.

2017 ipad gave me enough storage @ 128gb house on 10gb of photos on years, significant amount of downloaded album apple music , convenient ways import online accounts , data - importantly calendars going 2010 , organised icloud phot library. taking apple specific comfort account, , bar mac, ipad choice.

debated myself need full desktop apps, full file compatibility , other fruits of full desktop os (you know, things torrents etc!). sure, things important. have friends use lot of obscure windows programmes professional , reason never buy mac - thats fine. , see lot of people on here seemingly never consider ipad ever enough replace mac.

came down real world workflow. did use macbook on past few years? here's what:

safari browsing - well, we've got choices browsing on ios. concerned movie , tv show sites wouldnt' work due lack of flash. turns out, dodgy sites on modern html5 standards.

mail - simple enough, i've liked ios client , doesn't lack features use. can have accounts , attachments handled through it.

calendar - ios works apple's icloud calendar , that's i've used 7 years now. spent lot of time keeping organised , depending on meetings, study times, work times etc , balancing personal life , it's important me kept , maintained.

minecraft - glorious time sink i've spent hours building stuff on. minecraft on ios good, not 100% same playable , enjoyable me , shared multiplayer windows , xbox it's still there me. though cant use old worlds, they're safely stored away on icloud drive.

file management - since stopped using time machine on mac kept on icloud drive. documents , pictures didnt belong in photos kept here. scans of hundreds of documents too. accessible everywhere never needed on macs hard drive. same applies ipad, it's seamlessly here. , can't wait files further manage on ios.

photos - huge personal one. i've got 10000 photos on icloud photo library organised accurate metadata, gps, albums , everything. when moved windows couldn't find organiser , nothing did put them order despite metadata being correct!

microsoft office - important productivity wise computing task. can work on university projects entirely on office , whilst i'm acutely aware ios has limitations vs. full windows version none of features deal breakers me. , when worked in accounting practices, use of excel simple yes, ipad excel job! used sage, not on ipad, let me note.. did not let take client files home anyway nor expect work home on software that. dont consider problem employee.

sketchup - it's been years since made complex models on sketchup. life isn't going direction of using career or professional aspects , minecraft, time sink has gradually stopped being did on macbook pro naturally. have 100 invaluable files , models stored on icloud. , can use sketchup official viewing app enjoy them if ever need @ them. i'm aware if did go 3d it'd next step use more serious program autocad in general isn't of problem finance student!


so, workflow ipad allows me organise life how i've done, university work done no compromises, communicate , enjoy personal media photos , files.

since i've been on ipad, i've evolved computing experience.

scanner pro has meant scanning tonnes of paperwork files fast , fun. i've gotten rid of clutter in favour of digital files. ready email in seconds , annotate, convert full searchable text. it's amazing how easy was. i'd have had spend weekend using actual scanner this. looking forward year of university when handouts etc scanning them , not having grow paper clutter.

pdf expert awesome annotating , editing pdfs. got part time job application started annotated pdf on ipad. sure can done on pc portrait ipad feels more natural , without apple pencil it's natural.

imovie never app i've used before on mac, it's simple on ipad group footage taken days out , make them movies. i've enjoyed using way more on ipad - because never did on mac.

deep integration iphone - huge productivity booster - more ever have imagined. before iphone , mac synced know apple's ecosystem. now, ipad - main computer - literally cloned - on iphone like almost. files me, left them - 1 single interface. it's in sync no effort me. never complications. can literally work on keynote presentation now, interrupted, set ipad down , when i'm out , can access left on iphone reference.

copy , paste between devices amazing. can spend ages finding page or image share on ipad, copy it, whatsapp on iphone without needing send myself.

portability of ipad in apple smart cover makes portable computer i've ever had. , macbook pro, although heavy had sleek , sexy profile fitted in backpack. ipad, dont feel in bag. fits in door bin on car can set down there quick in , go situations. sounds novel, makes big difference. i'm not afraid of setting down pack anymore laptop in it. ipad takes knocks , bumps grace iphone.

logitech k380 keyboard constant companion ipad. case stands upright. bluetooth keyboard can go , forward between iphone , ipad. here am, macrumors on left side of screen, app on right , iphone imessage propped next it. when ios 11 drops, third app on top - that'll make total of 4 apps @ time can use side side. more need. keyboard has hot keys switch device @ glance , quite handy.

, here's never expected hear, it's ergonomic computing experience i've ever had. before complain, let me explain why. using £8 360 ipad holder adjust height , position of ipad means i'm never bending neck down, can have right distance , height neck straight , eyes not straining. meanwhilst keyboard flat on table or arm of chair @ 90 degrees flat. macbook pro or laptop involved looking down @ hunchback enduring angle on years - worried about.

planning new desk setup, going costly. instead bought bed table called klipsk ikea (£7) - using in bed keeps ipad propped again in front of me , @ right height whilst use keyboard arms conforming ergonomic rules comfort. , there's room paperwork, food, name it! no need desk anymore.

totally criticism of lifting arms use touchscreen vs. trackpad , comfortable mouse support. when use ipad me - in total comfort - , arms 90 degrees,flat , supported, lift hands , elbow still resting on table or bed.. therefore arent extending , lifting whole arm , it's less tiring. know how tiring lifting entire arm repeatedly is! that's why apple haven't made touch screen imac, , honest i'm glad of it!

, when think when bought nice macs of years, used plan things ram upgrades, ssd upgrades, new accessories , backup drives. printer maybe. that's gone ipad - dont need keep ssds, ram or other fun expensive upgrades. £430 spent, £25 on keyboard , other cheap accessories i've got totally modern , capable computer handles workflow , data perfectly. can use anywhere in few more situations laptop. never dies out on me, nor have use tethered power outlet - , macs never bad @ that, ipad outdoes them in regard.

now, there's small imperfections, not many come mind. things editing excel cells on screen keyboard, or positioning objects on screen precisely using touch on keynote etc - admittedly, using keyboard fixes both situations. selecting text on screen arrow keys , copy , paste shortcuts million times more productive. keyboard, ipad doesn't suck in regard recognise it's example of how it's not 100% everyone.

many people, dont use specialist movie or programming software , never will. mainstream needs met fine ipad.

things considered, it's working out fantastically. ios 11 can add experience , i'd imagine ios 12 continue trend. , me using 2017 ipad - non pro. apple pencil , features, if have money, add experience. dont need if feel can me!
