Ransomware - has this made you rethink your platform choice

has prospect of latest ransomware threat made re-think windows?

wannacry ransomware: need know

couple of points ponder
1. ransomware has started making way osx, not immune, architecture harder infected afaik.
2. if keep system update risks reduced.
3. practicing computing habits, not opening emails or attachments, not going shady sights (*cough* warez, porn, etc, *cough*)

honest in family, i'm wondering if macos ecosystem better fit. kids click on stuff adults wouldn't , while don't use email odds of them mistakenly (or not mistakenly) going sites may infect computer relatively high

i'm trying fix wife's hp right now, because computer has adware/malware. i'm not sure if kids or her.

personally, view possibility of ransomware attack same having catastrophic disk failure.

in other words, it's not case of "if" "when" , in mind make sure have strong , robust backup strategy when disaster strike can recover whether it's hardware failure or more nefarious

backup strategy overly paranoid follows:

our macs backup using time machine synology nas.

our macs backed using crashplan online

windows machines backup nas using synology backup software

photos sync google photos , synology nas

nas synced nas , backed yet nas, external disk, synology c2, crashplan online , google drive (we have paid gsuite accounts unlimited data)

second nas backed external disk , crashplan online

google data backed using spanning backup
