Macbook GPU kernel panics resolved after Sierra update?

hey folks!

hoping more knowledge me knows did in sierra update got rid of gpu issues?

have mid-2010 mbp 15' i7 , couple years ago go kernel panic every 20 minutes or on yosemite. had give on because out of warranty, kept crashing , quite frankly needed new laptop. fast forward few years decided upgrade macos sierra on dam thing , noticed there not single crash/panic. i've been using full day , seems new.

planning on changing capacitor on mobo causing issue rather not if software update fixed it. counting on laptop crash out of no in few days dont have high hopes i'm not sure why got fixed when thought 100% hardware issue..? thoughts, comments, or information soothe soul?

this issue on system not uncommon, iirc hardware-related though many people did not have visibly apparent symptoms prior yosemite or mavericks. changing settings gpu switching has helped some, , way sierra may manage gpu switching settings different yosemite, , if have type of effect- http://www.macworld.com/article/2062783/cures-for-a-panicking-mid-2010-macbook-pro.html

1 way rule out hardware issues take apple store or apple authorized service provider , have them run mac resource inspector video switching test (aka mri w/ vst.) test should free though unit vintage. however, seems that, a) fail, b) may place more stress on malfunctioning gpu [which may wish avoid if system functioning correctly time being], , c) given age of system, if fail results may insignificant given price of new logic board not financially justifiable @ point.

possible related os - had tons of issues yosemite resolved el capitan not unlike how had issues leopard solved snow leopard. however, have read particular issue, newer os' seemed linked more issues older ones.

if issues present again, try using program gfxcardstatus switchgpu script disable automatic gpu switching.
